PROJECT COORDINATOR / ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER

OVERVIEW:

W. A. Chester, a United Utility Company, is the industry-leading electrical contractor for installation, maintenance, and repair of underground high voltage cable transmission and distribution systems. Our clients are the nation’s electric utility companies and independent power producers. We work throughout the United States and are one of three specialty contractors performing this type of work on a national basis. W. A. Chester is currently recruiting for a Project Coordinator/Assistant Project Manager position. This position is responsible for assisting in the management of electrical underground transmission projects; including civil aspects of construction and will be assisting our Project Manager and/or the Project Director.  This position may require out of town travel with work locations typically in the United States.  Remote options may be available depending on workload and or project needs. The candidate must have the ability to work independently and be flexible with work hours and weekend and off-hour work as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Minimum requirement: Five years’ experience, background in Construction and education in Construction, Civil or Electrical Engineering or Technology.

LOCATION:

This project is a long-term project in Northern Virginia, and it’s preferred that the candidate lives locally in this region.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Project Manager’s responsibilities include managing the project from the time of award to completion.  A Project Manager may be required to attend pre-bid meetings, perform site visits, review specifications and drawings, estimate project costs and prepare project schedules.  The Project Manager is responsible to ensure the project is completed safely, on budget, and in accordance with the owner’s specification.

The Project Manager will provide leadership and direction to the Project Superintendent and/or General Foreman on the project.

The Project Manager will be required to communicate effectively through verbal and electronic mediums.  The manager must maintain clear and open communications with the owners, clients, senior management, and on-site crews.

Responsibilities include assisting with management project progress through completion.  This position will be required to supervise subcontractors and WA Chester tradesman, coordinate with Customer representative, possibly attend pre-bid meetings, perform site visits, review specifications and drawings.  Develop and assist with estimating project costs or change orders and preparing and updating project schedules.  This position requires a shared responsibility to ensure the project is completed safely, on budget, and in accordance with the owner’s specification.

  • Assisting with managing the project budget from planning to completion
  • Forecasting future spend
  • Calculating Monthly Accruals
  • Timecard Management
  • Safety Metrics reporting
  • As-build drawings preparations
  • Scheduling Travel for the crews
  • RFI’s, Submittals, Change Order preparation
  • Assisting in Procurement of materials
  • Assisting in Managing subcontractors
  • Assisting in Managing the equipment rentals and equipment on site
  • Coordinating with customer representatives and consultants
  • Performing schedule development and updates utilizing Microsoft Project and/or Primavera
